New to forums

Postby preachincowboy on Sun Mar 22, 2009 8:38 pm

I just found this site today and am excited about what it stands for, people in the horse indutry who love the Lord. I have been looking at another farrier site and feel alot safer here. I am not a farrier but am really considering a career change. I do shoe my own horses and a few others for friends but am no where neer a profesional. I may have an oppuritunity to do an apprentiship with a local farrier starting in April. Any advice on this kind of schooling? I have looked at a few schools but cant really afford to take the time off required since I do have that monthly mortgage to deal with. I also pastor a small church and am commited to that. Thanks for putting this site together and thank you Jesus for leading me here. Just another piece of confirmation that You Lord are leading me into something new. Looking forward to getting to know you all.

Hi Duane

Welcome . . . Well I'd say if you not a Farrier, you are a horseshoer, doing yours and others would qualify you, I guess.

Wow, Pastoring a sm church, I'd envy you, except I'm not allowed to. I haven't preached for a number of years. I kinda got my start at the Union Gospel Mission in New Westminster, BC. and did 5 years (twice a month) at the Lighthouse Mission in Bellingham Wa. state. Tough house though, most of the fellows loved to get fed and have a bed to sleep in, but didn't much like Chapel after supper. There was a fair amount of cussin' at times, even right when I was delivering the sermon. Well, bless their hearts, some of them got saved anyways.

If you find it difficult to go to school maybe there is a Farrier that would apprentice you a day or two a week. work for free for a while, and learn lots. In the mean time maybe get an anvil and a forge and work on shaping and making shoes, punching holes and the like.

I wish you well and pray:
Father help Duane to know your will for him, that he would be well lead by you. Enable him to see the way, and if shoeing it is then guide his eye and his hand in all that he does.
Thank You Jesus.

Thanks for the advice. I am believing that God will open the doors and provide a way. I have a couple of anvils and like to practice pounding stuff out. It is also a great stress reliever. I would like to make a forge, just havent done it yet.
We have a small church group that meets regular on sunday and this summer we are doing some outreach stuff, cowboy church mostly. We have five barrel races scheduled and trying to get a few more rodeos lined up. God has been faithful in opening doors, we just need to be faithfull and obedient.
God bless your day

I had a friend once that always said "I'm just waiting for God to open a door for me"

To which I replied, "(his name) I have been standing over here for a while now, and seen that the Lord has opened numerous doors for you, and you have just not walked through them"

Im always hearing people say they are waiting on God for something, but I really believe that God is waiting on us. We usually know what God is telling us to do but are afraid to take the leap due to fear of failure. Funny critters us people are. Is that why He calls his people sheep?
On the subject of horse shoeing, how is the economy effecting the buisness? Are horse owners just not shoeing as often or not at all? I know my welding work has slowed down a bunch but thats because of the contruction slowing way down. There's tons of horses around here, just wondering what you are seeing in your neck of the woods.
Moving forward with the Lord

Our economy started to slow down here a couple of years ago when P&T shutdown a few of their pulp mills. then the hay makers over the mountain had a 40% drop in yield, prices doubled, so all in all the horse industry has taken a bit of a slow down. The world recession doesn't seem to have effected us here much, lest ways not yet.

It's like I always hear from folks, "The Lord provides"
And he has for 50+ years for me, even before I knew him. What a guy, that God.
Thank you Jesus

Blessed is the man who listens to me . . .

The blessing of the LORD brings wealth, and he adds no trouble to it.

Hello All, I just wanted to give an update. I met with a local farrier on Friday and had a good chat with him about doing some shoeing. It was very encouraging and then he invited me to an AFA workshop that was going on locally. I went to that on Saturday and can say that I am truely hooked. Am I crazy or what? I want to do all I can to learn all I can and get going as much as the Lord will allow me to. Any savvy advice would be great. Praying the Lord is blessing you all with good health and prosperity. Hello Duane

It did get quiet here didn't it . . . :?:

But of all my websites that I have, It is still the most visited by far.
spo even though there are no new posts for a while, many are coming to enjoy and be uplifted.

So it will remain for as long as I am around any ways.

I am doing well, and my family is back together after a 3.5 month separation . . .

It sounds like you have been bitten and are moving forward. . .

Strike it while its hot. keep in touch. Bless your heart and bless your soul.
