Street Preachin'

Postby Bradley on Tue Nov 18, 2008 11:18 pm

When I lived at the coast I was involved in a couple of ministries.

One of them was down town Vancouver, on the street that you can’t drive on,
There was a hand full of old timers that had been doing street preaching there
For forty-two years when I joined them.

The drill was stand there and sing a gospel verse and then
one of us would step out and preach for a minute,
step back and we would sing another verse.
This went on for an hour or so. Normally there would be
from as little as 5 of us to 15. These old fellows even carried a city issued permit.
The one fellow had his Guitar, and I would bring my Mandolin,
and a foot tambourine. I have the Tambourine attached to a bass drum kick pedal.
The kick pedal end (what ever you call it) strikes the tambourine.

I spent 5 wonder years with them,
and when I started Farrier school couldn’t continue.

I have often wished I could find others that would like to do that in this small town.
Oh I haven’t played the Mandolin for years now, and was a real good C,D,G player.

Bradley, I wish I had the backbone for open air preaching. Or even for preaching period. But public speaking and I don't get along like I wish we would.

Bradley, thats a great story. I would love to see that kind of thing around here. I do LOVE to hear a good mandolin being played.
Isaiah 44:12 The blacksmith with the tongs works one in the coals,
Fashions it with hammers,
And works it with the strength of his arms.
Even so, he is hungry, and his strength fails;
He drinks no water and is faint.

Before being saved I couldn't speak in a crowd, like 4-7 and I would lose it.
But the spirit of God took over and If I am preaching, the words flow like hot Honey.

The key for preaching or even street preaching is know your subject matter.
Study, Study, Study, Study, Study.

Even street preaching is planned; we each had our own theme,
One guy preached on the bitterness of drink,
One guy preached on the Glory of Salvation,
One guy preached on the plight of the Jewish nation,
One guy preached on the wonder of the Love Of God.

The greatest street preacher I ever saw never told any one that they were a sinner.
He just asked them questions, like have you ever stolen anything, even a paper clip?
Have you ever told a little white lie?
Have you ever messed around on your spouse?

Then he would ask, would that make you a Thief, a Liar, and an Adulterer?
If you think yes, and you realize that you can’t make it right,
You might wish to consider Jesus, because he can make it right.

He never forced anyone to listen, or told anyone anything.
But he always had a crowd around him.

I will try to see if I can find a video about him.

If you heard my "Reshoe-Me" song,

you will know what I mean when I say that my madoline playing was a sweet song to our Lord.

 :D

LOL, I forgot that was you singing that song. Yeah, stick to the mandolin. I don't think they'd allow "reshoe me" to be played at Guantanamo.
